The drive from Hill AFB in Ogden to Boise was uneventful but very tiring. The wind blew all the way, with gusts that required both hands on the wheel all the time. But all is well that ends well, which it did as we pulled in to our spot at Gowen Air National Guard Base. The base is home to Air Guard, Army Guard, and reserve units of the Army, Navy, and Marines. It’s a surprisingly nice base with lots of trees and green grass. The RV parking area is located in an obscure corner of the base and, although plain, has full hookups and is clean and quiet. We’ll be here through Tuesday, exploring the area.
Speaking of the area, the photo above is of Ann sitting in front of the entrance to Ann M*** Memorial Park. I obscured the last name at Ann’s request, but you probably know what it is. Anyway, the downtown area of Boise, where the park is located, is beautiful and interesting. The Boise River runs through the heart of town and is bordered by parks and green space. There’s supposedly a lot going on downtown at night, although we couldn’t testify to that. We’ve been spending a lot of time at the motorhome catching up on things and doing some fix-up items. It seems there’s always something needing attention around the motorhome, minor things like fixing the sagging rubber step covers this morning by driving in some stainless steel screws. Small things, but they take time. Oh well, it’s an investment of time in our home.
We spent yesterday afternoon doing some planning for the next couple of months. We now have a pretty firm idea of the areas we want to visit and even put tentative dates on the calendar. I’d rather just be spontaneous, but at this busy time of year one really needs to make reservations, so we have to have a plan. I refuse to get hung up on a plan, though. We’ll follow it only so long as it makes sense. Being spontaneous is part of the fun of something like this.
So we’re settling into this life and are both surprised at how easy and enjoyable it is. We’re finding ourselves unaware of the time or even what day of the week it is or what the date is. It matters only because it’s best to move on Sunday or Monday, since more spaces are available at your destination. Other than that, who cares?!
Well, I’d better get busy. Ann is a couple of blocks away doing laundry, so I should do something productive. Maybe I’ll get the ladder out and clean up the front of the motorhome, which is covered with bug remains. Or maybe I’ll take the bicycles off the bike rack and get them ready to ride. Ann has never ridden bikes—motorcycles, but not bicycles—and the streets here are wide and flat and deserted, so it would be a great place for her to learn. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll let you know how it goes next time.

While exploring Boise, we ran across Ann M*** Drive, which led us to Ann M*** Memorial Park. It’s a beautiful park which is named after a famous Boise philanthropist. It’s an area of huge trees and grass you want to roll in, especially after all the dry, dusty country you have to go through to get to Boise. I restrained myself, but not Muffin. Ever see a dog smile?
